A practical and fun Statics experiment

This hands-on lab experiment helps Engineering Mechanics and Materials students apply their knowledge of the concepts of tension and compression loads, and stress and tensile strength, in a fun a practical way. Applying knowledge to physical objects helps students learn better, and will ultimately make them better engineers.

By milling out the pieces for a cantilevered truss from thin sheets of aluminum, a practical test can be made easily and affordably. Students also love breaking stuff.
